Welcome to the Chronicles of the Life & Times of The Bernician
Dedicated to my beloved daughter, the primary purposes of this work are to document the extraordinary events which have dominated my life; to set aside persistent suspicions, doubts and lies about what occurred before I changed my last professional name from Knighton to O'Bernicia in 2008; and to chronicle the equally unpredictable series of events which followed.
It's certainly not the case that, from the day I was born I've always had a problem with all forms of authority but it simply cannot be reasonably denied that authority has always had a big problem with me doing almost everything my own way right from the outset, which these chronicles emphatically demonstrate.
Born within sight of the River Tyne in the spring of 1969, on a day when a fire-breathing comet struck Britain and turned the skies red, The Bernician spent his first nineteen years North of the Wall, before heading south in search of creative plunder, comic rebellion and hedonistic revelry.
Following a ten-night, sold-out run of his one-man show, Dad Wouldn't Mend My Tractor, at the Euro-Theatre Festival in France, where one French critic described his show as "the language of universal comedy", The Bernician established himself on the London comedy circuit in August 1991.
During his first three months on the comedy circuit, The Bernician was described by The Heckler magazine as "one to watch for the future", having gone on a run of storming gigs, sharing bills with award-winning comics Lee Evans, Bill Bailey, Jenny Eclair, Jerry Sadowitz, Iain Cognito, Jeff Green, Phil Jupitus, John Thompson and Eddie Izzard, to name but a few.
In 1995, The Bernician wrote his first London play, The Truth Game, a snappy contemporary comedy about three couples lying to themselves and each other, which became an overnight fringe success and was described by the Blackheath Guide as "an unexpected treasure."
The Bernician then wrote and starred in Nightlights, a play about a narcissistic late-night radio talk show host, which also played to full houses in London and the south east, after Time Out described it as "a skillful light satire."
The Truth Game enjoyed several sell-out runs at theatres across London and The Bernician was commissioned to develop it into a screenplay by Kino-Eye Films, which led to his induction into the guerrilla film industry and the first of nine trips to the Cannes Festival in May 1996.
In the autumn of 1996, The Bernician performed his character-based, surreal and political stand-up in Ray Brady's Little England for Kino-Eye Films, which was broadcast on Channel 4 in 1997.
In 1998, The Bernician co-produced and co-directed the 35mm fifteen minute black comedy, Roadkill, starring the late Brian Hibbard [pictured above], which was described by Total Film as "hilarious" and "beautifully shot" and was broadcast on Sky Moviemax in 2000, following popular screenings at the Cardiff, Leeds and Raindance film festivals.
From 1996 to 2001, The Bernician's stand-up workshops in London and the south east nurtured numerous national new comic award-winners and professional comedians, including Jon Reed, Markus Birdman, Mark Dolan, Stephen Carlin, Patrick Monahan, Eddie Brimson, Rosie Wilby and Josie Long.
In 2000, The Bernician was cast in a supporting role in the 1st episode of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, as an oddball workman, playing opposite Jessica Stevenson. The episode was directed by Game of Thrones director, Mark Mylod.
In August 2001, The Bernician was commissioned to write a historical television drama series called Geordie Boys, about three generations of Newcastle United fans and the players they idolised. The ten episode series is still in development and is partially based upon his own family.
In 2004, The Bernician co-produced the hit Danish action comedy, The Good Cop, starring Kim Bodnia and Game of Thrones star, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, which his company, Unspeakably Wicked Pictures, launched in Cannes whilst the film was #1 at the domestic box office.
In the aftermath of the Cannes Market in 2004, The Bernician was enaged as executive producer on writer-director Emilio Estevez's Bobby, the stpry of the assassination of presidential candidate, Bobby Kennedy. Whilst he remains uncredited, the film which the director personally credited with "rescuing from three years of development hell" was nominated for three Oscars.
The Bernician shot his directorial debut feature, Nefarious, also starring Danish legend, Kim Bodnia, alongside newcomers, Conor Woodman, Spek, Shaoron Percy and Guy Porritt, and Dutch stars, Alwein Tulner, Tygo Gernandt, Willy van der Griendt, Kenan Raven, Johnny Melville and the late Antonie Kamerling, in the spring of 2005. The film remained unreleased until late 2024.
From autumn 2009 until autumn 2018, The Bernician and co-producer, Michael O'Deira, spent nine years making a coruscating documentary feature film called The Great British Mortgage Swindle, which was released in the UK on the 10th of November 2018.
In the summer of 2010, The Bernician founded Universal Community Trust, which formally became a government-free, tax-exempt jurisdiction, in which the rights of the individual are protected from the potential tyranny of the collective under Natural Law, when the UCT Treaty was ratified by 25 newly formed autonomous micro-nations, on 21/06/2012.
The Great British Mortgage Swindle was written and narrated by The Bernician, who also appeared in the film during footage of a talk he gave on mortgage fraud in Stony Stratford in 2011 about his infamous legal dispute with Bank of Scotland. TGBMS has now garnered more than two hundred 5 star reviews on Amazon.co.uk.
In the summer of 2019, the TGBMS producers gathered together more than a thousand claimants and launched a class action lawsuit alleging decades of institutionalised mortgage fraud against every commercial UK bank, following the capitulation of Bank of Scotland in their fraudulent £2.5 M claim against The Bernician's family.
When COVID-1984 began the TGBMS Class Action was postponed and The Bernician set about identifying and exposing the multitude of frauds being perpetrated worldwide, before launching a Private Criminal Prosecution against the UK Government for pandemic fraud and mass murder under the cover of COVID. Whilst the case is still ongoing, The Bernician has been blacklisted as 'subversive' and heavily censored.
When it became clear that Britain had descended into COVID-1984 tyranny, without any possibility of obtaining justice under the Common Law, The Bernician drafted Magna Carta 2020, which was duly ratified by the founding sovereigns of Universal Community Trust on 23/08/2020.
On February 22 2022, part one of The Bernician's highly controversial two part documentary series about the Christchurch Mosque attacks on March 15 2019 was released on A-FP Video, when it was immediately blacklisted by every major social media platform. Part two was released in June 2022. The feature documentary version of TTFT is set for release in 2025.
Fifteen years after his last gig, The Bernician founded a politically incorrect comedy circuit called Speakeasy and returned to stand-up comedy at Speakeasy Comedy Club Birmingham in the spring of 2022, where he compered for fellow cancelled comics, the hilarious Craig Campbell, Tania Edwards and Steve Hughes, at a truly barnstorming opening night.
Speakeasy Comedy Clubs were then established in Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Newcastle, Hereford, Caerphilly and Swansea, where other top drawer comedians Tom Stade, Jojo Sutherland, Lewis Schaffer and Alistair Williams have already featured on bills with The Bernician at nights of uncensored, unbridled, polemic stand-up comedy.
IN December 2024, Nefarious won its first award in the Best Feature Film category at the highly rated TMFF - The Monthly Film Festival; as well as being named as a finalist in the respected London Film & Television Awards.
In January 2025, The Bernician won the prestigious IndieFEST Film Award of Recognition for his outstanding work on Nefarious, which has nowbeen officially selected to compete in 12 online festivals across the world. The critically acclaimed and award winning film is now screening exclusively on A-FP Premium.
Nefarious has already won critical acclaim and The Bernician's debut feature film has been dubbed "Withnail & I For The MDMA Generation", whilst being compared to Get Carter and the works of Antonioni, Bergman and Winding Refn. Click the button below to watch now on A-FP Premium.
